Tom Chilton learnt a huge amount during his first WTCC outing for the Sébastien Loeb Racing team in the 2 race weekend. It was his first opportunity to get to grips with the Citroën C-Elysée following his switch from Chevrolet last year.

A difficult qualifying meant Tom had to battle in Race 1 which he did successfully to secure 11th overall but 4th in the "WTCC Trophy" for independent teams. To be eligible for the "WTCC Trophy" the drivers must race without direct financial backing from a manufacturer, however, they compete to the same sporting and technical regulations as the factory teams.

In Race 2 Tom jumped 3 places early on and took the chequered flag to secure 9th overall and 2nd in the "WTCC Trophy" to start the season on a positive note heading into the next round in Slovakia on the 15th, 16th and 17th April.

"Everything was totally new for me this weekend. It was great to have Sébastien Loeb alongside us. It was a big support. Since he’s very familiar with the C-Elysée, his advice was key. It enabled us to move forward. I had a good second race since I went from the 12th to the 9th position and I almost over-took Mehdi on the finish line. The qualifying session was difficult, just like the first race. It was not representative as I’d never really run with new tyres on a dry track before. I had to change the way I approached things from what I knew of the Chevrolet to what I was discovering on board the Citroën. It ended up better than it had started. To finish on a high note is very positive. It was great to be on the podium of the WTCC Trophy in race 2; 2nd and 4th is a great way to start the year.”
