Tom Chilton continues his fine form as he secured his first outright win of the season for Sebastien Loeb Racing, keeping him well placed to challenge for the WTCC Trophy heading into the next race in Japan in three weeks time.
After completing another MAC3 time trial, Chilton got off to the perfect start from second on the grid making a move in Turn 1 to get up to first place. Second place Monteiro made life difficult for the British driver with some thrilling door to door racing before the Honda man went wide allowing Chilton to get away and Filippi to move up to second.
With clear track ahead, Chilton pulled out a 2 second gap before fellow Brit Rob Huff made a charge, moving up to second and closing to under a second by the time the chequered flag fell, giving Tom the overall win as well as maximum points in the WTCC Trophy for Independent Drivers.
Multiple world Champion and Tom's former teammate, Yvan Muller rounded out the podium and WTCC Trophy leader Bennani came home in eighth place but importantly third in the WTCC Trophy.
Speaking after the race, Chilton commented:
"It's absolutely fantastic, my first win of the year. It was definitely not easy out there because it's a circuit where it's very easy to make a mistake and it's also very hard on the tyres. After a few seconds and thirds this year it's great to get this first win".
In the Main Race Chilton secured P4 in the WTCC Trophy with main rival Mehdi Bennani securing his second third place of the weekend to maintain a lead over Chilton in the battle for the Independent Title.
