Tom started the opening race from third on the grid at Circuito Internacional de Vila Real in Portgual and made the most of his strong track position by using the inside line approaching the first breaking point to move up to second place in front of Catsburg's factory Lada. Tom closed in on Coronel and looked the quicker of the former teammates at the start of the race but couldn't find a way past on a track that provided few overtaking opportunities. He held onto P2 for the remainder of the the opening race to bring the flag down on yet another podium finish.
In the main race Tom started from P8 but with overtaking again difficult, could not improve. Despite this he picked up 2nd in the WTCC Trophy for Independent Drivers.
To polish a great weekend, Sébastien Loeb Racing secured the WTCC Trophy for Independent Teams.
Commenting after the race, Chilton said: "I’m really happy for Sébastien Loeb Racing, we’ve topped the WTCC Teams Trophy. I’m also happy for myself, I managed to get a good start in the opening race and climb to 2nd overall. I’m sure I was faster than Coronel, but it was really difficult to overtake here. Unfortunately, I had to brake at the start of the main race to avoid a potential accident when I saw contact between the Lada and Mehdi’s car. I remembered Monteiro’s crash last year and didn’t want that to happen to me. With two Top-3 finishes in the WTCC Trophy and an overall podium, we can certainly say it was a good weekend. I’ll enjoy some time off now before the next race in Argentina, but will be keeping up my training. Just like my car, I’m a bit too heavy at the moment and want to make sure I’m 100% for the last part of the season."
