In his first outing in the Power Maxed Racing car, Tom, as though he'd never been away, collected a points haul that puts him 6th in the Championship after 3 races. He showed progress throughout the day with tenth in Race 1, eighth in race 2 and a stunning third in Race 3 to cap a memorable weekend for the Brit.
It was a breathless Race 3 that really started the celebrations. From pole, Chilton maintained second for much of the race while a charging Turkington in the BMW125i M Sport, made his way from tenth to third by mid-distance, appearing in Tom's rear view mirror to mount a charge, eventually passing him on lap 17 in more established machinery. Tom held onto the final podium place and crossed the line to secure a valuable result for Vauxhall and Power Maxed Racing in their first race back. An elated Chilton commented:
“It was perfect. It’s our first event of the year and we’re still learning the car. It shows what a great job Power Maxed Racing has done and to get a podium is brilliant. It’s put me right up there in the championship in a new car – it’s amazing. I didn’t expect it at all. The BTCC has 32 of the best drivers in Britain and some of the best teams in the world, so to get a result is very difficult – especially a podium, so I’m absolutely over the moon. It was quite special and for us, it felt like a win.”
Tom now switches back to WTCC action in Morocco on April 9th before hitting Donington on April 16th in BTCC.
